Saadani National Park at the coast

Saadani National Park

The Saadani National Park is the only park at Tanzania’s coast and covers an area of 1100 km². Coastal savannahs, mangrove and coastal forests along the Wami river, as well as important turtle breeding areas, are especially protected by this park. It is best accessible from Dar es Salaam via car (130 km) or small planes from Arusha, Moshi or Dar es Salaam.

The park features a completely unique combination of coastal living areas with coastal and mangrove forests and savannah vegetation with large wild animals. Here you can find buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards, antelopes, zebras and many other species for your photo collection. Various bird species including storks, herons and kingfishers can be discovered at the banks of the Wami river.

With roots growing up to 2 meters, the so-called “wandering palms” are another impressive sight at Saadani National Park.
